How it all started
Hi there! I live in a small Northeastern town in Vermont. Arts and crafts have been a passion of mine since I was young. I can remember my grandmother trying (unsuccessfully) to teach me to knit and crochet. At that time, I had no patience and neither did she. The fact that I am a south-paw and she was not was also a contributing factor. LOL (Any right-hander that has tried to teach a left-handed person knows this is not an easy endeavor! ;D ) But I always admired her work; she truly amazed me with what she could do with yarn!
I tried many different crafts though the years, Jewelry making, quilting, amateur photography to name a few. Nothing really held my interest.
My husband came home from work one day and announced that he had signed me up for a painting class in my town. At first I thought he had lost his mind! Sure, I had tried painting before… resulting in severe canvas abuse. They sadly now live buried deep deep within the farthest, darkest corner of my closet where they will reside for the rest of eternity! (poor things…)
Because of that class, I fell in love with acrylic painting. Eventually my talent grew and so did my admirer’s! I still remember the first time I sold one of my paintings. What a wonderful feeling it was to have someone else enjoy what I had created!
Since then I have expanded to a love of scrapbooking and card making. And finally completing that circle started so many years ago with my grandmother, learning to knit and crochet. That’s what I love about art! It’s ever-changing! So that my friends is how Vermont Country Notions was born.
